David Seymour

A career on Fleet Street, working on the Daily Mirror, Daily Mail and Today, culminated in a decade as Political Editor of the Mirror Group, responsible for policy, writing the editorial column and relations with government. He was also readers’ editor from 2001-6 and founder and editor of Student Mirror, which circulated to 500,000 university students. He organised the annual NUS student media awards, appeared regularly on radio and television, and has lectured on journalism at a variety of universities and training schemes.

Since leaving the Mirror Group he has combined journalism with media and political consultancy. He has recently had published Reporting Poverty, a guide for journalists, produced in association with the Society of Editors, the Media Trust and the Rowntree Trust. He is a board member of the Countryside Alliance and a trustee of Headliners, the organisation which helps disadvantaged young people through journalism.
