Steve Dyson


Steve Dyson is a former newspaper editor with 20 years experience in the media industry. He worked as a reporter, industrial correspondent, news editor and deputy editor in Birmingham before becoming editor of the Evening Gazette, Teesside, in 2002. He returned to his home city as editor of the Birmingham Mail from 2005, also editing the Sunday Mercury from 2008.
Steve was an external examiner for the Press Association Training Centre in Newcastle from 2002, and was also responsible for all journalistic training for Trinity Mirror Midlands from 2005.
He left editing at the beginning of 2010 to launch Dyson Media Ltd, a consultancy offering bespoke training, strategy reviews and media awareness advice for individuals and organisations. Clients range from city councils to football chairmen and from MPs to NHS Trusts and housing associations. Dyson Media also holds regular ‘Master Classes in Regional Media’, involving experts from the local and national press, broadcast and online media.
Steve regularly freelances for BBC radio, presenting the 'Hard Talk with Steve Dyson' interview series, and writes on media issues for Press Gazette and InPublishing magazines, along with a weekly blog on industry website www.holdthefrontpage.co.uk   He also sits on accreditation panels for the National Council for the Training of Journalists..
